SwiftKey wins Best Startup Business at The Guardian’s Digital Innovation Awards 2012

British startup continues its winning form less than one month after being presented with a Global Mobile Award at MWC

23 March, 2012; London, UK – At a packed event held by Media Guardian in London last night, British tech company SwiftKey (www.swiftkey.net) was awarded the Best Startup Business, picked by a panel of judges representing top UK media and technology companies.

The company, which creates mobile typing solutions powered by artificial intelligence technology, was given the award after a remarkable six months. In that time, their flagship product SwiftKey X reached the number one spot in Android’s global paid apps chart, with over six million downloads, and last month they picked up the coveted Most Innovative Mobile App at the mobile industry’s Oscars, the Global Mobile Awards.

“It’s an honour to win an award that recognises SwiftKey’s digital and technology innovation, as well as the success we’ve had commercially with consumer downloads and licensing our technology to leading mobile device manufacturers,” said Dr Ben Medlock, SwiftKey CTO, after collecting the award. “There’s amazing talent, innovation and drive in British technology companies, and we’re proud to be picked as the Best Startup Business by the Guardian Megas 2012.”

Eight awards were given away at the 2012 Megas, which sought to recognise the best in class of digital communications and technology innovations in the UK. SwiftKey was one of three companies shortlisted for Best Startup Business, placing the team up against financial records service Duedil and property website Zoopla.
