SwiftKey X update – faster, better and in more languages

Hi everyone,

We’re pushing out an update today for SwiftKey X and SwiftKey Tablet X with a whole bunch of great new features.

Our developers have been working extra hard to make the Fluency engine — the clever technology behind SwiftKey’s predictions — faster and more efficient. This means it should take up less memory on your phone and get you the best predictions and corrections even quicker.

You may have heard that we’ve been working on our multi-touch — the enhanced multi-touch framework in this release should make life much easier for all you rapid typists, allowing you to type even faster.

Multi-language support has always been at the heart of SwiftKey’s mission. This update adds Arabic and Hebrew to our list of supported languages, bringing the total to 35. You can enable up to three languages at once and switch seamlessly between different layouts (e.g. English and Greek) simply by sliding the spacebar. Also, for the first time, we have full language localization for Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.

Other enhancements include DVORAK and COLEMAK layouts, the ability to change the height of the keys to suit your device and fingers, and improvements to the settings menu, alternate character selection, and sharing options.

We hope you’ll all enjoy it, and remember to tell your friends about it!

Charlie

    Hello guys.

Does this release contains an update dictionary for Portuguese (written in Portugal)? Currently, the dictionaries still use the old form which can’t be used from 2012 onwards (for instance, the dic still has actividade when it should be atividade).

I am looking for the release of the Chinese language pack.

  • Nico

The update change list says the Delete-pastes-Words problem with the native Samsung mail client would be fixed… IT IS NOT. It still makes writing a challenge on SGS2.

  • Joan

Are you gonna release catalan language too?

  • Charlie Edmunds

Luis – language updates are separate to app updates, but I’ll make sure to pass your comment on to our language team

Richard – sorry, we don’t support Chinese yet, but it is on our roadmap

Nico – the last update improved how SwiftKey works with the Samsung mail client but we realise some issues still remain and we are doing what we can

Joan – we do support Catalan!

    Thanks Charlie.

  • Nicola

    Thanks for the update :-)
I’ve been using the beta for a while and loving it! With the addition of Arabic and Hebrew, it has become the only keyboard I use.

But you still have a couple of snags with those languages. As is evident from your screenshots:
    1. The Arabic version has “Arabic” misspelled on the space bar [currently it says, "La-Arabia", meaning "no Arabic", instead of "Al-Arabia"]
    2. The word “Hebrew” on the space bar is spelled backwards.

Also, I still have both of them spelled backwards on my Nexus S (CM 7.1).

After applying the update, SwiftKey is no longer working. I have an HTC Desire HD. It’s showing as enabled in the Keyboard settings.

  • Andrea

Seems that the support of the GS2 email client is FAR better (finally). However, I had to restart the phone. But at least now I can delete words and type “don’t” without having to send “don’t't” or “don’don’t”.
Thanks, I was very close to the point of dismissing the app.

There’s a really anoying bug: When you longpress for an alternate character, you have to keep your finger on the screen to choose the character you want. This doesn’t happen with the emoticon icon (it happened in the last version, now it’s fixed there and broken in the rest of the keys).

    Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000.

  • Charlie Edmunds

Nicola – Thanks for the info, I’ve passed it on to our Languages team

Gary – Please check our support area for a solution, if there is none there then use the “Contact Us” form http://support.swiftkey.net/

Andrea – Our devs will be very happy to hear that :-)

Mario – This is not a bug, slide-to-select alternate characters is a feature that was requested by our users. We have reverted to tap-to-select for the smiley button as sliding was unwieldy with multiple rows to select from.

  • Mario

Well, then you should give both options, because for me this is really anoying. Besides, try to use the QWERTY layout, spanish language, and alternate symbols for ” – you just can’t reach every symbol keeping your finger on the screen.

  • Charlie Edmunds

We appreciate the feedback – please will you add it to our ideas forum here so other users can add their comments? http://support.swiftkey.net/forums/116689-1-swiftkey-x-ideas-

  • Mario

I’ve posted it in this thread: http://support.swiftkey.net/forums/116689-1-swiftkey-x-ideas-/suggestions/2292039-change-smiley-key-back I think everyone would be happy with the option to choose between tap-to-select and slide-to-select. Now I have to revert to the previous version.

Installed the update this morning and the Swiftkey keyboard is no longer functioning. . Swiftkey is shown as being active in the settings. Droid Incredible Gingerbread.

  • Mike

Not sure what happened but, this update has rendered the app useless, says it is active yet, no dice! I have the stock, lame android keyboard and can’t seem to get Swift Key to work at all, please help!!!

YESSSS!!! Thank you for adding Dvorak support!!! Finally, there is a great keyboard option for those of us who prefer alternative keyboard layouts :D

  • Anonymous

I found a bug: When typing in the Dvorak layout within a browser address bar, the “.com” key force closes Swiftkey X. Please fix this bug! Thanks.

¡Buenas Tardes!

    Arthur

  • Juan

    Hello!
Great keyboard, I’ve been using it for a couple of months now (paid version). Only suggestion I really have is to allow us to customise themes!
Keep up the great work guys!

  • David L

Thanks for the update…proves to me that Swiftkey was worth the price, and this is coming from a guy who NEVER pays for Android apps.

Noticed something strange, though. The predicted words above the keyboard are in a gigantic font, and the special character selection buttons (the ’123′ button, etc.) are almost impossibly small.

Is there a way to fix that? I can deal with it, but I kinda miss the unassuming look of the old keyboard.

Either way, I LOVE SK X and would surely buy it again.

  • Charlie Edmunds

    Hi everyone

If SwiftKey appears to have disappeared it may be that Android has disabled it during the update. Go to Settings > Keyboard on your phone or tablet and make sure SwiftKey is enabled, then longpress any text field, choose Input Method, and choose SwiftKey (on tablets there is a button for Input Method in the bottom right of your screen when you are in a text field).

If you spot any bugs please email us at hello@swiftkey.net, and if you have any ideas for ways to improve SwiftKey please post them on our ideas forum http://support.swiftkey.net/forums/116689-1-swiftkey-x-ideas-

    Thanks!

  • Melissa

Hi…just tried the trial version of the keyboard. Seriously tempted to switch to the paid version. This keyboard would really be the best for me if it supports Japanese. =) So hope it gets support soon. Thanks~

  • Daniel

Many of the Russian-speaking people living in English-speaking countries would really like the Russian Phonetic keyboard layout. Otherwise it is practically useless to type in Russian on a keyboard that is designed strictly for Russian natives.

    Hi!

Is Korean/Hangul among the languages you support – or will support in the near future?
