SwiftKey visited by Minister of State for Trade & Investment

On Wednesday 21st November, we were pleased to host Lord Green, Minister of State for Trade & Investment, at SwiftKey HQ. The visit, organised by UK Trade & Investment, was a chance for both parties to discuss the on-the-ground reality of being a fast-growing young British company.

Our CEO Jon Reynolds, and CTO Ben Medlock spoke with Lord Green over lunch about SwiftKey’s journey and the obstacles we have faced along the way. It was a great opportunity for us to voice our experiences and share the highs and lows we’ve encountered as a UK startup in Europe’s tech capital.

Having a keen interest in language technology himself, we were excited to also be able to show Lord Green some demos of the innovative things we’ve been up to at SwiftKey Towers. Giving a glimpse into some of the secret fun stuff we’ve got up our sleeve is always as much a pleasure for ourselves as for our guests.

Lord Green was highly supportive of SwiftKey’s role as an innovative global company based in London, creating jobs and positively supporting the UK economy. Commenting on his visit, Lord Green said: “I saw for myself the new and exciting technology that SwiftKey has brought to the market. London is the ideal location for young and vibrant technology firms such as this as it boasts a strong professional services sector and a highly skilled workforce.”

He went on to add: “The Government is determined to ensure Britain is open for business and that innovative firms are able to take every opportunity to boost their overseas trade and attract new investment. I wish SwiftKey every success in their new headquarters.”

Being selected by UK Trade & Investment for this visit was a real recognition of our success in international markets. We are thrilled to be the No.1 paid Android app in the world at the moment. Lord Green’s visit reflects our growing status as a fast-paced startup that’s making waves across the globe. Having had a strong relationship with UKTI from day one, we’re grateful for their further support in providing opportunities such as this for us to tell our story.

Helping to arrange this visit has been one of my first tasks since recently joining SwiftKey as Marketing Coordinator. I’m looking forward to supporting the SwiftKey team in the areas of events, awards and conference planning, as we continue to create momentum going forwards.

Thanks,
Precious
