Say hello to SwiftKey 4

It’s the moment everyone’s been waiting for! After months of hard work and collaboration between our developers and community, we’re proud to officially unveil the world’s smartest touchscreen keyboard – SwiftKey 4 – featuring SwiftKey Flow.

When we first unveiled SwiftKey Flow in October, we were stunned by the reaction – it showed us there was a gap in the market for a gesture typing keyboard that really understands what you want to say. With the latest and greatest SwiftKey you can switch seamlessly between tapping, flowing and choosing words.

What’s more, Flow Through Space is a brand new feature that lets you glide down to the space bar between words, writing entire phrases as you go.

To celebrate the launch of SwiftKey 4, we are giving away a Google Nexus 7 tablet and an exclusive SwiftKey t-shirt. To be in with a chance to win, make sure you’re following @SwiftKey and just tweet ”I’m tweeting with SwiftKey 4 to win a Nexus 7! Try Android’s smartest keyboard now – #swiftkey”. We’ll pick the lucky winner next Wednesday (27th February) so be sure to check your Direct Messages then! Read our full terms and conditions here.

Also to celebrate, SwiftKey 4 and SwiftKey Tablet 4 are both currently half price, so get them now. For our loyal users who previously bought SwiftKey, the new version will be rolled out as a free update.

SwiftKey 4 also boasts many improvements to the powerful prediction engine that powers all of the keyboard’s language insights. We’ve scrapped “rapid” and “precise” mode in favor of an intelligent system that learns the sort of corrections and predictions you want from the keyboard over time.

The learning capacity for SwiftKey’s personalized insights has been increased. We’ve made tweaks to Smart Space and the way SwiftKey heatmaps how you interact with the touchscreen to make both work more powerfully.

We’re also launching new language support, bringing our total up to 60 languages. No other keyboard supports this many languages at a contextual level, and we’re very proud of this milestone. The new languages are Albanian, Bosnian, Javanese, Sundanese, Thai, and Vietnamese.

There are a lot of thanks we need to give to the incredible amount of hard work that’s gone into building this version of SwiftKey. Our developers each deserve a pat on the back for the outstanding job they’ve done, but also fundamental to making SwiftKey what it is today is our army of SwiftKey VIPs — 100,000-strong — for their efforts in helping refine and shape this version. Thanks to each and every one of you. And if you’ve yet to join us, why not sign up to our VIP Community and help us build the next big thing!

    Excellent. Well done.

  • Michael Schaap

According to Google Play, Swiftkey 4 (neither regular nor tablet version) is compatible with my Nexus 7. Ironic, given that you give away a Nexus 7…

    • Michael Schaap

See image. Tablet version is identical.

      • Laszlo Demeter

Nexus 7 is a tablet, so go and buy the Tablet version:

        • Michael Schaap

In the first place, why would I, if the phone version works just fine? And in the second place, as you can read above, the tablet version is just as incompatible with the Nexus 7, according to Google Play.

          • Stuart Farish

I’m getting this also. I bought both versions a while ago. Nexus 7 died and had to be replaced. Now the tablet edition says it’s not compatible with my Nexus 7 when I try to install on the new Nex7.

Yet it says it is compatible with my phone!!

          • Ruth

Hi all, we’re aware of these reports and the team is investigating right now. We’ll update you when we’ve fixed it, thanks.

          • Laszlo Demeter

Sorry, I checked only the picture.
I know the phone version works fine, but it’s not optimized well for tablet however :)

  • Patjess Place

SwiftKey Tablet 4 is not working for my tablet galaxy note 10.1, why?

    • Ruth

We’re aware of reports of this issue from some tablet users and it’s being looked at right now – thank you. Ruth @ SwiftKey.

    • Spikes Joubert

The update to 4was free but has caused endless headaches with the crazy cursor

  • Terry

Hi the new SwiftKey flow will not work on Android 4.2.2 Please arrange an update. I too would like to flow….

    • Michael Schaap

Actually, works fine on Android 4.2.2. on my Galaxy Nexus, but not on my Nexus 7. So, it’s not (just) a version issue.

      • Ruth

Hi we’re aware of reports some folks are experiencing this and it’s being investigated right now. Thanks.

  • Ken Wong

The new version on Google Play is marked as being not compatible with my Nexus 7, running Android 4.2.2.

I have it installed on my Galaxy S3 though, and it’s great, despite having to give up the ‘swipe left to delete word’ gesture.

    • Laszlo Demeter

Nexus 7 is a tablet. So go and buy the Tablet version:

      • Ruth

We’re aware of these reports and the team is looking into it right now. Thanks for your patience, we’ll update when we know more. Ruth @ SwiftKey.

      • James Dunning

The tablet version shows as incompatible with my Nexus 7 in Google Play.

        • Laszlo Demeter

I know, I found that out later after I posted here. Seems like the team reversed or something like that the compatibility between phones and tablets as I’ve seen reports with phones being compatible with the Tablet version. They are fixing it right now, please be patience.

          • Charlie Edmunds

It should show as compatible now, sorry for the inconvenience.

          • Pete Buck

I’m noticing it’s showing not compatible with the note 2 (at least the at&t version)…wouldn’t mind taking advantage of the discount.

          • Ricardo Mota

Still incompatible here – Samsung Galaxy W running 4.1.2

  • John Hilker

I can’t even find the app in Google Play on my Nexus 7 running 4.2.2.

    • Ruth

We’re aware of some reports of folks experiencing this issue and the team is investigating it at the moment, thanks for your patience. Ruth @ SwiftKey.

      • John Hilker

Thanks so much. I can’t wait to check it out!

  • George

Why is not running on my nexus 7 4.2.2? The tablet version ofc! I have 2 users with the full app and i can’t update nor re-install it!
the only way to install it was to download it to my GalaxySII (ODD!!!) and back it up with titanium backup and then move the files to my nexus 7 and restore the app!

  • Jim Jeffries

I can confirm that the UK play store says Swiftkey not compatable with Nexus 7, or even Acer Iconia A500. Same for both Phone and Tablet versions.

    • Ruth

We’re investigating these reports right now, thanks. Ruth @ SwiftKey.

  • Ruth

Hi all, Ruth from SwiftKey here – we’re aware of reports that some folks are having issues with tablets such as Nexus 7s and 10s. The team is looking into this right now and we hope it will be resolved shortly. Thanks.

    • Dragon

I was able to get it installed on my nexus 7 by pushing it from the online google play store instead of through my tablet google play app, at least its a workaround until you can get this corrected.

And…it fixed the suggestions being small on the tablet edition! Awesome

  • Jim Jeffries

I can also confirm this is not just an issue with the new version of Swiftkey, previous versions also said incompatable.

  • kahuna

The new version on Google Play is marked as being not compatible with my Samsung Galaxy Camera (EK-GC100). Swiftkey Flow Beta works perfectly on this device…

    • kahuna

Now everything is ok. Thank you!

  • Zenyu Loh

still no support for chinese language ? it’ll be perfect by then

  • Salty85

I want to buy this immediately. but I can’t due to the nexus 7 incompatability. Please either confirm the sale will last after this is corrected or that we can get this for new buyers. Just about done with my trial.

    • Ruth

Hi, an update for all those who’ve been experiencing tablet compatibility issues. Nexus 7 and other wifi-only tablets should now be able to update to SwiftKey Tablet 4 via Google Play, pending the app store cache updating. Thanks for your patience. Ruth @ SwiftKey

    Fixed now, thank you.

  • Miguel Angel Gonzalez Rodil

    Doesn’t working in my LG-P990, CM-10.1, Android JB 4.2.2
I can’t configuring it (it breaks).
    How could I get help?

  • DtheArtist

I LOVE IT! It’s amazing. I’m glad I didn’t have to pay extra for it, & it wasn’t another app besides the original Swiftkey. I saw the news on Twitter, & I just went to Google Play & updated mine. One thing I would like tho (& I’m gonna go to the VIP community for this) is themes like the Berry one. I would like some that look like that in different colors, like the regular blue color. It seems like that theme works better for me as far as the fluidity of the Keyboard. So, ,I hope you implement more themes like that for those who aren’t red lovers.

  • Erik

I got Swiftkey on Amazon App Store, so I can not update on Google Play. When will the latest version be on Amazon App Store? When I view it in the Google Play store, it only gives me “Uninstall” and “Open” but I do not have Version 4. This is annoying.

    • Jim

Same problem here… how to update to v4?

    • RivenSky

Big ditto here. From what I’ve read SwiftKey hasn’t been updated on Amazon in a couple versions. Please update!

      • Erik

I would not be happy if Amazon doesn’t get updated. I’ve already contacted SwiftKey support about this. Regardless of where we got it, we’re still a customer and should be treated the same.

        • RivenSky

Actually, I just read on their twitter that it was posted. I cleared the cache for the Amazon App Store then went back in. I did have to hit the refresh button on the App Updates page for it to show up.

          Installed and happy now!

          • Erik

            Got it now. Thanks.

          • Charlie Edmunds

We uploaded the new versions to Amazon a few days in advance to give them some lead time – Amazon like to personally check over every app that is uploaded so it takes them longer than Google Play (who publish apps automatically).

  • Bo Shi

For Beta users, how do we get the free update? The Play store shows it at $1.99. Will the update be rolled out to us directly?

    • Mick Jacobsen

Also, will we lose all of the learning the beta version has been doing over the past few months?

    • Dániel Breszkovics

I’m pretty sure you have to buy it.

    • Cornelius Sim

Please let me know how I get the free update. I am directed to Play Store and only options are either the Free Trial (1 month validity) or the Paid version. I purchased Swiftkey a year ago.

    • Geoff

When will the Beta cease to work?! Can’t we just carry on using it?!

  • Sonicaholic

I’ve been using SwiftKey for as long as i can remember on both my og xoom & my htc desire now gnex and sware by it, after all this time I’d never load an android device without it. It’s simply the only on screen keyboard I’m happy using on a daily basis and just love the new build, I’m not a huge fan of swipe keyboards I much prefer the “thumb danc” but its great to have the option. Thanks so much devs ;-)

    • Ruth

Thanks for your great feedback Sonicaholic, glad you like the new build! As you say, you can switch between flowing and tapping depending on your preference or mood! Ruth @ SwiftKey.

      • Sonicaholic

Hi Ruth, you’re more than welcome, after all credit where credit’s due ;-)

  • travitron

I’ve been using SwiftKey for a while. I’m conflicted regarding SwiftKey Flow, however — I LOVE the “Swipe back to delete a word” feature of SwiftKey, but this is disabled (understandably) when Flow is enabled. For me, it’s a dealbreaker so I don’t think I’ll be using flow. May I suggest an alternative gesture to delete a word if Flow is enabled? Like swipe up? Anything really that doesn’t conflict with Flow would work so that both Flow and “swipe back to delete a word” can live in harmony :)

    • VB

The back button deletes whole words at a time if you long-press it.

      • travitron

True, but a lot slower than the swipe gesture. I think both swipe to delete and Flow can work together, the swipe just has to be something other than back obviously…

        • disqus_qfx3wmCdXV

Swype’s model of tapping button and redoing word works well, any issues borrowing this?

  • Paolo Bueno

I’m getting “Package file invalid” when downloading from Google Play in my Galaxy S3. I’ve tried uninstalling SwiftKey 3 and clearing all data from the Google Play app, but the same error persists.

  • Charlie Edmunds

SwiftKey 4 is a free update for users who have previously purchased SwiftKey 3 — if you have not yet purchased SwiftKey then get it now while it’s on sale! :-) If you log into the store where you bought SwiftKey you should see the new version available to download.

If you update from SwiftKey 3 to SwiftKey 4, your learned language data from SwiftKey 3 will be preserved. If you have both SwiftKey 3 and SwiftKey Flow Beta on your phone and you’d like to keep your language data from SwiftKey Flow Beta (instead of SwiftKey 3) then you can do this by uninstalling SwiftKey 3 before you install SwiftKey 4.

I love Flow. Changes the way I communicate in a way I never anticipated. I’d tried swipe keyboard before but never felt comfortable using them. Thank you for an excellent product.

  • VB

    Is the latest version? Thanks.

  • Scott Meyers

Was very excited to get flow, but the update has whacked most everything on my phone (evo4g), especially typing (odd, random delays and freezing). Please advise on how to remove update or do I have to uninstall SwiftKey altogether? Was excellent before, but intolerable now.

  • Donnie Chris Sutton

Still has a problem with “too”. My only minor gripe so far.

  • ismail cil

After the last update, we had turkey is impossible for users to use SwiftKey. Because the keyboard keys smaller. and are having difficulty using. Please, Turkish language is selected, the selection of only the qwerty keyboard as a solution to this. Thank you.

April 11, 2013. O just watched a sixteen minute video by one of your employees demonstrating the app, and he mentioned they dropped the price from $3.99 to $1.99. The app store shows it for $3.99. I would like to get this at the price you advertised. Even in the app store your description shows in blue lettering that it’s half price now. That is until you go to buy it

  • Liz Ferdman
